Ingredients:
- 4 wide strips of orange zest
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 bottle of dry red wine
- 1/2 tsp whole cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon whole peppercorns
- 3 fruits star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 bay leaf
Preparation:
- Mix the orange zest with sugar and let it steep for 1 hour. Pour the red wine into the pan, add the cloves, peppercorns, star anise, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, and the zest-sugar mixture. Place the pan on the stove and heat over medium heat for about 15 minutes (do not bring to a boil). Remove the pan from the stove, cover, and let the mulled wine steep for 40-50 minutes.
- Pour the mulled wine into thick glass glasses, leaving the spices and zest in the pan. Garnish with cinnamon sticks. Serve hot.
