Chili dog: a hot dog with ground beef topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 1 onion, chopped
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 450 g of ground beef
- 2.5 cups ketchup
- 1 teaspoon chili seasoning
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 4 beef sausages
- 4 hot dog buns
- 1/2 cup grated Cheddar
Preparation:
- Quick chili sauce. Place a skillet over medium heat and add two turns of vegetable oil. Heat the oil and add the onion and garlic. Cook, stirring, until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking up any lumps with the back of a spatula, until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Add the ketchup. chili seasoning and mustard, and cook until the mixture thickens, about 15 minutes; season with salt and pepper.
- Prepare the grill while the chili sauce cooks. Preheat a charcoal grill to high heat, or place a grill pan over two burners of a gas grill. Layer a paper towel several times, blot with oil, and quickly wipe the hot grill grates to create a nonstick surface.
- Meanwhile, boil the sausages. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook the sausages. Remove them from the water and pat dry. Grill them just long enough to leave grill marks (this will impart a grilled flavor).
- Brush the inside of the buns with vegetable oil, place the outside of the buns on the grill and grill until charred and heated through.
- Fill each bun with sausage, chili, and cheddar. Serve.
