Crispy Witch Hat Treat topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 4 packages of 280g marshmallows
- 165 g butter + extra for greasing the parchment and bowl
- 2 boxes of chocolate puffed rice (breakfast cereal) at 440 grams each
- A little cocoa powder, optional
- Vegetable oil for lubricating hands
- 1 box 340g plain puffed rice (breakfast cereal)
- Green gel food coloring, for coloring puffed rice
- Golden food powder, for dusting puffed rice
Preparation:
- In a large saucepan, melt 9 tablespoons of butter over low heat. Add 3 packages of marshmallows and heat, stirring, until completely melted. Add the chocolate-flavored puffed rice and stir until completely coated. The mixture will appear very white due to the melted marshmallows; this is normal, as the color will fade over time. If desired, you can add a little cocoa powder for a richer color.
- The base of the hatGrease a large piece of parchment paper with butter. Grease your hands with vegetable oil to prevent the rice from sticking, then spoon about a quarter of the mixture onto the paper. Press it down and shape it into a flat disk about 25 cm in diameter on the greased parchment.
- HatForm the remaining mixture into a cone with a 15 cm diameter base. Place the cone on the base of the hat. Create curves and indentations in the cone to give the hat a realistic look.
- In a saucepan over low heat, melt the remaining 3 tablespoons (45 g) of butter. Add the remaining package of marshmallows and heat, stirring, until melted. Stir in the plain puffed rice until completely coated. Grease a small bowl with butter and transfer 1/2 cup of the rice mixture to it.
- RibbonAdd a few drops of green food coloring to the remaining mixture in the saucepan and stir until evenly colored. Form a 7-cm-wide strip of the green mixture to wrap around the base of the cone.
- BuckleDust the set aside crunchy mixture with gold powder and form it into a square buckle. Attach the buckle to the base of the ribbon. If the mixture doesn't hold its shape, let it set for 10 minutes.
